Alastays is a classifieds noticeboard that helps people rent islands homes directly from owners. We don't take a cut, we don't hold deposits, and we're not your landlord. This page covers the boring-but-important stuff. Email hello@alastays.com if anything is unclear.

What we are 🏝

Alastays is a classifieds platform. Think Craigslist for island rentals. Owners post properties; renters browse and message owners directly. We're not a broker, agent, landlord, or escrow service. We don't verify the listings, we don't inspect the properties, and we don't handle the rent.

Using Alastays

You need to be 18+ and able to enter a binding agreement. Don't share your login. Don't list properties you don't own or have authority to rent. Don't upload photos that aren't yours. Don't use the platform for anything illegal, harassing, or scammy. We can suspend any account at our discretion.

Owners: list accurately and respond to renters in good faith.

Renters: verify everything before sending money. Visit the property if you can. Check the owner is real. Get a written contract. If a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Money 💸

The only money we collect is optional subscription fees from owners who want their listing on the platform. We do not touch rent or deposits — those go straight from renter to owner via whatever payment method they agree on. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. Refunds are at our discretion.

Disputes

If something goes sideways with a rental — bad property, no refund, key never arrives, deposit not returned — that's a matter between you and the other party. We're not party to the rental contract and we don't mediate. If a listing turns out to be a scam, please tell us so we can take it down.

Liability (the boring legal bit)

The platform is provided "as is" with no warranty. We don't guarantee that any listing is accurate, available, lawful, safe, or even real. To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability to anyone is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the previous 12 months, or (b) USD 100. You agree to keep us out of trouble (indemnify us) for stuff caused by your listings, messages, or transactions with other users.

Privacy 🔐

What we collect: your name, email, profile photo (if you sign in with a third-party login), the listings + contact info you publish, and your subscription status if you pay. That's pretty much it.

What we do with it: run the platform, send you transactional emails (welcome, listing updates, etc.), prevent fraud, and process payments. We don't sell your data.

How long we keep it: while your account is active. After deletion, your data is gone within 30 days. Payment records may be retained as required by law.

Your rights: you can access, correct, export, or delete your data anytime. Self-service via your profile page, or email hello@alastays.com.

Security: TLS in transit, encryption at rest. No system is perfectly secure — tell us immediately if you spot a problem.

This platform isn't for under-18s; we don't knowingly collect data from minors.

Delete my account

Sign in → profile page → scroll to Delete my account → type DELETE to confirm. Your profile, listings, and chats are removed within 30 days. If you can't get into your account, email hello@alastays.com from the address on file.

Remove a listing

If a listing about your property is on the platform and you don't want it there, email hello@alastays.com with the listing URL and a quick note confirming you're the owner or authorised manager. We'll take it down.

Cookies & tracking 🍪

We use a small set of cookies and local storage:

• Functional — to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences (which announcements you've dismissed, etc.). Strictly necessary; can't be turned off without breaking the site.
• Analytics — anonymous page-view and click analytics (PostHog) so we can see which pages help renters find a stay.
• Meta Pixel — when you accept the cookie banner, we load Meta's Pixel so Meta can measure which Facebook/Instagram ads bring real visitors and so we can improve our ad campaigns. The Pixel sets cookies on facebook.com and shares the URLs you visit, the listings you view, and whether you clicked a contact-owner button (no personal contact details, no payment info — we don't handle either). Decline it in the cookie banner and it will not load.

You can clear cookies in your browser anytime — that just signs you out and resets your consent choice. To opt out of Meta's ad personalisation across the web, see Facebook's ad preferences.
